The Huntsmen (2015) is a short film by Crystal View Productions starring Irene Astral. The film centers on the Greek legend of the kallikantzaroi, malevolent supernatural creatures that emerge during the twelve days of Christmas to spread strife among men. Closely related traditions are found throughout Europe, with wild, hairy, and horned creatures appearing just after the Winter Solstice to the sound of pastoral bells. In Greek, these beings are also called Ta Paganá, the Huntsmen.
This short film tells the story of a young archaeologist who suffers a broken ankle while hiking in the mountains of southern Greece with her boyfriend. She is aided by a strange old man and threatened by an armed gang looking for treasure. But as night settles in and the Winter Solstice looms, they all find themselves struggling with a single question: Are the Huntsmen real after all?
